David Wood Ministries: Soul Winner's Toolbox

A Note From Evangelist David A. Wood, Th.D.

      WELCOME

Welcome to the Very First issue of the Soul Winners Toolbox.  We want to be a blessing -- to motivate -- train -- let you hear from those who are "doing it" for our Lord -- prepare you -- above all, give you a lot to think about.  Our vision is to touch 100,000 per month.  You can help by forwarding the Toolbox to your friends; allowing them to subscribe by opting on.  Our first issue is going to 2,419.  Glory!

Please allow me to speak from my heart about two thoughts:  Work Ethic & Equipping the Saints

WORK ETHIC
We desire that the “toolbox” elevate the practical aspects of "getting the job done" for our Lord and Savior. Sometimes we are so steeped in tradition, philosophy and educational phrases that we forget someone has to go to work in order to get the Gospel out and make a difference in people’s lives. Our desire is for the articles, testimonies and content of this publication to “help God’s people do a better job in reaching others for the Savior.”

I think of the words of that great song “We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes.” Remember; it finishes with the words “and then we’ll all go home.” Whatever happened to old fashioned phrases like work hardgetting the job donesacrificegoing the second mile and on and on. We trust that your heart will be stirred, motivated and humbled at the great opportunities that lie before us.

EQUIPPING THE SAINTS
These words deal with several aspects that are so important to accomplishment. They deal with training—motivation—practical tools—in order for any of this to help God’s people become stronger, enabled and ready, they must be proven “in the field.”

May God allow us to present to, and share with you, life changing articles that will motivate each of us to open our toolbox and go do the work for our Savior. After all, that’s why He leaves us here after we are saved.

Remember: Be sure to email the "Tool Box" to your friends

Please email me your thoughts and suggestions to office@dwministries.org above all:  Pray for us.

Soul Winning: Its Meaning and Requirements

From: John R. Rice, (December 11, 1895 - December 29, 1980) Pastor, Evangelist, Author, Editor - Mentor to Dr. Wood

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."  Mark 16:15

We are about to discuss the most important business in the world.  To make people good and make them happy and blessed through eternity, to keep people out of the fires and torment of Hell forever -- that is the most important business in the world.  And, of course, he who would succeed in such a tremendously important work for God needs to clearly understand what he is trying to do, and needs to develop the character and prerequisites necessary for this blessed work.

What does it mean to win souls?  What must be the soul winner's convictions?  How much knowledge of the Bible must he have?  What about the soul winner's moral character, his devotion to Christ, his prayer habits?  One who would be a soul winner should know exactly what is involved and what is required.

Q & A

Question: Dr. Wood, Why do so many of our converts never darken the door of the church?

Answer: I am asked this question more than any other about practical soul winning. A couple of thoughts that I trust will be helpful: God’s Word does not return unto Him void. Our job is to be obedient and sow the seed and leave the harvest to the Lord. However, our concern is real. It may be helpful to recognize that the soul winner is trying to “reap” every time. This is the right attitude and a wonderful approach. However; sometimes, we may only be planting or watering the seed. You ask, could the prospect be fooling us on purpose? Yes! Remember that the Gospel is the power of God unto Salvation and the Holy Spirit is our source of power. I have personally seen several times in my ministry where a person has prayed the prayer with me to accept Christ but did not seem to indicate any growth and did not even come to church to make it public. And then, later on, I found out this person had trusted Christ to be their Saviour but the conviction had started when I presented the Gospel. Our job is to be faithful. Let’s trust God for the increase!

The Tool of Mentoring!

From: June Wood, Trenton, GA

“Don’t do as I do, do as I say do!” I’m sure that’s an all too familiar phrase for most of us. Even if the words were not spoken aloud to us, the subliminal message was still there.

In the Bible we find Abraham lying to the King because he was afraid if he told them Sarah was his wife, they would kill him and take her for themselves. Then a few chapters later, we find their son, Isaac doing the same thing. Isn’t it interesting how children repeat their parent’s mistakes? We all remember, in years to come, how Jacob and Esau fought and how deception came easy for Jacob (with his mother’s help). Then, later, Laban deceived Jacob for Rachel and made him work fourteen years for the woman he loved. They were blessed with twelve sons and we all remember the heartbreaking story of the ten brothers selling their brother, Joseph, into slavery. And the list goes on and on.

Testimonies

From: Chris Crowe, Soul Winning Director, Calvary Baptist Church, Red Bank, TN

My soul winning partner and I went out on a Tuesday evening for our weekly door to door visitation. We drove into the area we were going to visit, parked and both proceeded to the door.

We knocked on the door bu
t no one was home so we left a church brochure and then went to the next door. As we approached this door, my partner  said he was sure there would not be anyone home because we were out on a different night for our visitation. He believed Monday night seemed to be the best night for us.

Our Identity in God

From: Dr. T.A. Powell, Goode, VA, Former Pastor, Church Builder, Author and, College Professor

Trusting God: Living Out, ‘Who God Says I Am!’

John 10:10 the thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly

Having been a senior pastor thirty-two years and now, teaching potential pastoral candidates, in a Christian University; it goes without saying the Lord has taught me many lessons. It has been through adversities,  failures, pain and brokenness that I learned my most valuable lessons. The following comes from the deep well of my heart and I pray, pastorfriend, that you will embrace the thoughts shared.

The spiritual health of pastors and churches in this 21st Century is of great concern to me. If a pastor struggles spiritually, then, most likely his church will. Hence, the evangelistic efforts and growth of the church will be negatively affected. You might be thinking, what does that mean? I will answer that question by showing you four very important facts that could either be your downfall or victory; not only as a pastor but as a Christian.

Missions

From: Scott Winters, International Director, The WITNESS Project

Missions is the very heart beat of God, but in this world of over 6.3 billion people, 50% have never heard a clear presentation of the Gospel. And I will go a step further: another 25% will never hear, if we do not share it with our next door neighbor. You’re probably thinking, “how could that be, with a church on every corner, and the Gospel being pumped into our country 24/7 via, television, radio, internet, printed material, etc.” While the Gospel may be easy to hear, it is also easy to bypass—just change the channel.  We now have a generation of  unchurched young people who do not even know  the basic stories of  the Bible.

God has given us a “Great Commission” to Go, Win, Baptize, and Teach. Jesus certainly would not have given us a command that He did not equip us and give us the tools to fulfill.

Life Management

From: John Hamilton, Pastor of New Life Baptist Church, Columbia, SC, Stewardship Director with David Wood Ministries

Stewardship is more about “Life Management” than it is about money. It is God who has made us “stewards” and what He requires is that we be found “faithful” (I Corinthians 4: 2). As a steward, we own nothing. God owns it all and HE simply allows us to manage it for HIM. Once individuals learn the true Biblical meaning and purpose of “Stewardship”, they will experience FREEDOM. Freedom that comes from knowing that everything we have comes from
God. God has given to each of us the same number of  hours in each day and how we manage those hours will determine the kind of life we build. God has given us certain talents and our use of those talents will determine how much “glory” we’ll bring to HIS name.

Muslim Jesus vs. Biblical Jesus

From: Ergun Caner, Evangelist, Seminary President, Lynchburg, VA

Twenty Scriptural Reasons Why They Are Not the Same Jesus

1. Islamic Jesus was created and not eternal

The similitude of Jesus before Allah is that of Adam: he created him from dust, then said to him,
"Be": and he was. Sura 3:59

Biblical Jesus who is eternal

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting. Micah 5:2

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. John 8:58
